Senior Client Confidence Check

For real estate agents who serve older clients

"Answer honestly. This isn't to judge yourself or feel bad about gaps. You can't build a plan for growth if you don't know your starting point."

How you show up today

Score each 1 to 5, where 1 = a real gap right now and 5 = already a genuine strength.

1. Slow or non-linear decisions. When a client takes a long time, circles back, or moves backward before moving forward, does that feel manageable, or does it make you want to push?
2. Emotional conversations. When a client cries or shares something heavy about loss, fear or family conflict, can you stay present?
3. Senior housing options. If a client says they are considering a CCRC and a 55+ cooperative, can you talk through the nuances and the differences between both options?
4. Family dynamics. When adult children disagree, or the family wants something different from your client, do you have tools to navigate it?
5. Professional boundaries. Do you know where your role ends, and do you have people to refer out to? Do you know the difference between guiding and rescuing?
6. Systems and follow-through. Do you have a process for the consultation, the transaction, and staying in touch after closing, or are you improvising each time?

Your business and market

7. In the last 12 months, about how many transactions did you close, and how many involved a client 60 or older, an estate or inherited property, or a downsizing move?
8. Which of these do you have in your network? (check all that apply)
9. Elder law network. Do you have more than one elder law attorney in your network, and can you identify how their practices differ and the type of client that is an ideal referral for each of them?
10. About what share of your local market is 60 or older?

Not sure? We'll use U.S. Census Bureau estimates for your county (pick your state and county below).
